Home project bidding, officiated

Every contractor prices the same job. You pick the winner.

If you have ever gotten three quotes for the same roof and they came back $9,000, $14,000, and $19,000, you already know the problem. They were not pricing the same job. We write your project up once, send that same write-up to up to 5 local contractors, and put their numbers on one sheet where you can actually compare them.

Start a project How it works

BidReferee is a service of Moser Capital Group LLC. We are not a contractor and we do not do the work. Our job is smaller than that: make the bids comparable, and keep the process clean.

How it works

Most projects run about two weeks from the first call to a signed contract. Here is the whole thing, start to finish.

1The write-up

On a short call we turn your project into one document: what is included, measurements, photos, timing, rough budget. That document is the job. Everybody prices that document.

2Ballparks, sealed

We send the write-up to up to 5 invited contractors. They get 2 business days to send a ballpark. They never see each other's numbers, and the numbers stay sealed until the round closes.

3One sheet

You get every ballpark on a single page: what is included, what costs extra, how soon they can start, and whether they are licensed and insured.

4Site visits

Pick up to 3 that you like. We set up the visits, and each contractor turns the ballpark into a firm written quote.

5You sign

You sign directly with the contractor. The deposit goes by ACH through BidReferee so there is a record of the deal. After that, you pay the contractor the way you normally would.

The rulebook

Most lead sites make their money selling your phone number to whoever pays. We do it the other way around. These rules run the whole business, and we have never made an exception to them.

Nobody pays to bid. Not to join, not to get invited, not to rank higher.
There are no sponsored spots, no boosted listings, no featured contractor of the week.
The contractor who wins pays us one fee: 3% of the signed job, at least $150, never more than $750. The same deal for everybody.
You see that fee. It is printed on your comparison sheet.
Rankings come from how fast contractors answer, how complete their bids are, and how their finished jobs went. Nothing else goes into it.
Your project goes to the contractors we invite, up to 5 per trade, and to nobody else. We do not sell your information.
Reviews only come from homeowners who signed a job through BidReferee.
Ballparks are estimates, labeled that way everywhere they show up. The firm number comes after a site visit.

What it costs

One flat price for the package you pick, agreed before we start. It is never a percentage of your project, so a bigger roof does not mean a bigger fee for us. The service fits projects of $5,000 and up.

For contractors

Joining the network is free. Getting invited is free. Sending a ballpark is free. You pay us only when you win the job: 3% of the contract you signed, $150 at the low end, $750 at the top, and founding contractors pay half of that on their first won job. You cannot buy a better ranking, and the homeowner sees exactly what you paid us, printed on their comparison sheet. If you are good with all of that, we would like to hear from you.

Contractors: ask to join

Questions people ask

Is a ballpark a binding bid?

No. It is a rough number based on the write-up, and it is labeled an estimate every place it appears. You get a firm written quote after the contractor has seen the job in person.

What do the contractors pay?

Nothing unless they win. The winner pays us 3% of the initial signed contract, with a $150 minimum and a $750 cap. You see the exact fee on your comparison sheet.

What if fewer than 3 ballparks come back?

On a Platform Sprint, it is your choice: we run another round, or we refund the $99.

Who do I sign the contract with?

The contractor, directly. BidReferee is not part of your construction contract. We do not do the work, we do not supervise it, and we cannot guarantee a contractor's workmanship.

How does the deposit work?

The deposit on the signed contract is paid by ACH through BidReferee, so there is a record of the signing, and then released to your contractor. Every payment after that goes straight between you and the contractor.

What kinds of projects fit?

Roofing, concrete, remodeling, decks, and similar work, $5,000 and up, around Knoxville for now.
